The Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster; It could have been prevented:

Before they start screaming that no one could have foreseen an environmental disaster of this magnitude, which now threatens turning the entire gulf coast into an oily polluted wasteland and a marine dead-zone; let me first say, many of us did. Any type of oil exploration and drilling contains inherent risks and dangers. Most of the risks can be reasonably managed, when drilling on the earth’s surface; but these risks are greatly increase in offshore drilling – and can only be managed with any degree safety, when rules and regulations are first put in place, which put the interests of the commons above those of the oil companies and their profits – and this is why we must elect competent  leaders.

The events that caused this latest of environmental disasters; didn’t start with the April 20 explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig - it started when Gorge W. Bush was appointed as President in 2000. In the mid to late 90s, officials in the Clinton administration had drafted new regulations and laws, governing offshore oil exploration and drilling, both before and after Clinton had extended the moratorium on offshore oil drilling. The regulations in this draft were modeled on the same laws and safeguards that are enforced by every other nation on this planet, which is engaged in offshore oil drilling. However, G. W. Bush, and his newly appointed cabinet of brain-dead and incompetent, Christian university graduates, and deluded ignorant Christian idiots and morons; believed the laws just amounted to more government regulation and the interference in the private matter of business. And that the regulations and laws would just discourage private investment.

Then in 2003, under the pressure of the oil companies, the Bush administration further weakened the regulations and laws concerning the construction and operations of these offshore oil drilling rigs. The oil companies and their contractors complained that many of the required safety devices, would not increase safety, but would only complicate the construction, and increase the cost of building the oil-rigs. Bush agreed saying “it’s best to leave those decisions up to the experts, like myself, the ‘oil men’ who know how best to drill an oil well” (well he said something just as stupid, even if those weren’t his exact words).

One of those required safety devices, was a remote controlled blowout preventer, that with the other required safety equipment, would have automatically shut off the oil within minutes after the explosion had occurred – and if this device had been installed during the construction of this oil-rig; we would only be dealing with a few thousand gallons of oil, and not the millions of gallons of oil we’re now faced with today. Their main objection to this device and its supporting equipment, was that it would have added about 700,000 dollars to the cost of the construction, of each new oil-rig (a small price to pay for preventing an environmental disaster of this magnitude, you just might think?)

I was deeply sadden when this ignorant Christian moron, G. W. Bush, decided to expand offshore drilling for oil, this despite all the warnings of the dangers presented by scientists, that by him doing so, he would only be creating a disaster waiting to happen.

The biggest concerns I had back then was without direct government oversight, laws and regulations, and a real invested plan to quickly deal with these types of disasters; we would be betting the future of life as we know it here on our only planet, on those deluded Christians who are only concerned with Jesus, the rapture, and a deluded vision of an afterlife.

I was very disappointed when Obama caved into these ignorant mindless Christian morons in the GOP, who are led like ignorant-sheep, by the interests of corporate America, I hope that now he will grow some fucking balls, and enact a permanent ban on this madness, or at least reinstate the moratorium on new drilling, at least until all of the current safety issues have been properly addressed.

I can now only hope that the damage being caused by this disaster, will open the eyes of those ignorant Christians voters in the south, who’s only criterion in choosing their leadership, is that they be just as anti-science, deluded and ignorant as them, and only concerned about the here and now just like they are. But I believe it will only be a matter of time, before they start blaming Obama for this too; and then they’ll again support that ignorant Christian bitch, and the “drill baby drill” mentality.

This is one of the main problems within the christian community anymore. Greed means more to them then safety or anything else. I would like to see extreme greed punished. Greed isn't a bad thing but when people take it to extremes it tends to cause more problems then it solves.
Thanks for writing this one. I linked to it fromhttp://www.redstateprogressive.com/2010/05/baby-d...

way to go you self sentered asshole marxiist . this is what all you commies can think and talk about . wait until they find out that it was you enviromental terrorists working for g.soros that pulled this off
People have to understand that energy policy is foreign as well as environmental policy. How many oil wars do we have to fight before people trash their gas guzzling SUV's and turn down the heat to 68 degrees in the winter (I have mine set to 66)?

This site has some interesting articles, but they bash Christians so bad. This article is a great example. When ever you use "Christian" the worst surrounding are always idiots, morons, and ignorant, and much more.
I am a Christian and I have no problem with non-believers of people of other religions. To it just seems like too much work to go out of your way to bash on people who believe differently than you. Maybe it is just because I'm a very open minded Christian and accept all people for who they are.

Thanks for dropping by, Al. I generally don’t generalize all “Christians,” as all being “idiots, morons, and ignorant.” However, some one believing the stories written in the bible as literal truth is in fact, very ignorant. And when our elected officials make decisions which put the well being of the planet at stake, based on greed and a belief that it’s OK to fuck-up the planet because they believe that jesus will return and make things all better, and the only purpose for our life here on earth is to get to heaven; they then are a threat to everyone on the planet, and they deserve much ridicule and scorn.

The delusion of Christianity is not a good thing for the long-term health of our planet, and the well being of mankind.

The Bush administration did not remove ALL regulations. What Pres. Bush did, was take the regulations back to the level they were BEFORE Clinton came in and up'd the regulations to the pt that no plants could even run, due to over regulation. And, furthermore I guess the author of this article, if not a Christian moran butthead, he must be on the left & be one of those ignorant, ranting, hypocritical bigots. As per the left, they are very good at name calling, and dirty talk, but low on intelligence. I would love it if we could wave a wand & all oil and oil by-products (& the products that we use daily that are made from oil-by-products) disappeared, and then what would all these idiots do. The fact that BP has drilled over 5000+ rigs without a problem, proves they DO know what they are doing. And, for Bacon's benefit, perhaps if the regulations under Clinton had not been imposed, and companies could drill on land, maybe they wouldn't have sought out off shore at all. Trouble is, radical environmentalists don't want you to drill anywhere, don't want any more natural gas lines put down, no nuclear, nothing but wind & solar. So, what do we do with the products made from the oil by-products? How do we get along without the conveniences of today? It is a hard fact that, " if we can't grow it, we mine it". Everything we touch today comes from one or the other. Period.

And, furthermore you idiot (author), perhaps you should call Pres. Obama, and ask him, why, after 48 days out, he has YET to send the Army Corp of Engineers down to the gulf, to help contain it, and they could have contained it, because they have the equipment to do so. BP has over 1600 pieces of equipment in the GUlf, and they ARE paying for every $ of cost for this spill and cleanup. So, buddy hotshot, what is Washington doing? NOTHING. THEY ARE SITTING BY, WATCHING THIS REACH OUR SHORES, WITHOUT LIFTING A FINGER TO DO ANYTHING, AND THAT, SIR, IS DISGRACEFUL & SHAMEFUL. HE IS LETTING THIS DISASTER UNFOLD. SHAME ON HIM.

First off, the government doesn’t have an agency setup or capable of dealing with an ecological disaster of this magnitude. Then there’s the other fact that, the containment and cleanup of this mess, is the sole responsibility of the companies who were involved with the well, not the government. And from day one, BP has been lying to Obama and everyone else, and saying that they had this situation under control – when in fact they didn’t. When PB began planning this project, they said that they had a plan to deal with anything like this that might happen – when the fact is that they had no plan at all – and Because of that ignorant Christian fucking idiot and moron, (Bush) there was no government oversight at all.

And for your information you ignorant moron; BP has a horrible environmental record when it comes to the off shore oil rigs. By their own records, they spill over 200,000 gallons of oil into waters every year; and you can bet that the real amount of oil spilled into the water, is at least 5 time higher than what they’re saying – they have been allowed to write their own reports. And the drugged out members of the agency responsible for regulating them and providing oversight back to the government, simply signed off on their reports, and as if they had written the reports themselves.

And furthermore you ignorant moron; simply drilling more oil wells is not a long term solution for are energy needs. If we would have continued President Carter’s energy plan, today we would be using about 60 - 70 percent less oil, than we were using in 1980. But the fact that big-oil simply buys their way into getting what they want anyway. And shame on you moron, for coming here and showing us just how ignorant you are!
I bet you are one of these people that wants the government to leave businesses do their thing without regulations. This is what happens when people are allowed to chase money without regulations. It isn't the governments job to clean up after companies that screw up. The only way the US government needs to be involved is to insure that all criminal acts are prosecuted and that BP is held accountable for all cost of the clean up and lost income to those that depend on areas damaged by this spill. We need to get off of oil and find another way of doing things. It isn't even the environmental impact that we should do this for. Oil will run out one of these days and you thing it is bad now.
