Rick Santorum: "colleges and universities are indoctrination mills"

From CBS News:

Obama wants more young adults to go to college so they can undergo "indoctrination" to a secular world DALLAS, Texas - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Thursday that President view.
In an hour-long interview with conservative television host Glenn Beck, Santorum also defended his record on abortion and his vote in favor of President George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind education law.
On the president's efforts to boost college attendance, Santorum said, "I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely ... The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country."
He claimed that "62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it," but declined to cite a source for the figure. And he floated the idea of requiring universities that receive public funds have "intellectual diversity" on campus.

I am not sure just where Santorum is getting his "62 percent" figure from - but I totally agree that there are many students of higher learning, who do in fact leave their delusional religious beliefs behind them after graduation from intuitions of higher education. But the relevant question here is why?

Could the reasons that students of higher learning are leaving their religiously indoctrinated faiths behind them be because for the first time in their lives, they have discover that there are actually other people who hold different religious beliefs than their own or have no religious faith at all. Or could the reasons be, that they have learned the fact that the universe is not thousands of years old, but is in fact billions of years old; or could it be that they have learned the fact, that the universe and all life here on earth, was not created in 6 days, as they were indoctrinated to believe as young children -- when in reality, the real fact is that these processes have taken billions of years, and are still going on even today; or could it be the fact that through the modern science of biology, and the complete DNA mapping of both humans and the great apes, that we now have unquestionable evidence, that both humans and the great apes, both evolved from a common ancestor, and that humans were not instantly created out of mud and a bone, and by, and in the image of some "god," as they had been indoctrinated to believe?

Yes indeed,  when most Christian students, realize that the foundation from which they had based their religious faith upon, was in fact, all just a big heap of delusional bullshit, most often than not, they will in fact abandon their religious faith.

And here in another speech, Rick Santorum said: "President Obama once said he wants everyone in America to go to college ...what a snob." And then still on this "liberal college indoctrination" theme, Santorum claims: "Obama wants to remake you in his own image" (just look at the crowd that Santorum's pitching this ignorant and racist rhetoric to and how they respond). The one thing that Rick Sanitarium has failed to mention, is that he is also a product of these same "liberal public colleges of indoctrination" (but I guess he's one of the other "38" percent, that has managed to hold onto their religious superstition, religious stupidity and religious ignorance).

The fact is that Santorum would like to defund all forms of public education, and then let the parents decide what they want to teach their own children. And he really means this - he and his wife are homeschooling their own children.

I never thought that I would see the day, when the idea of having our nation filled with uneducated and ignorant people, would be seen as such a good thing within the base of any political party. The base of the Republican Party has devolved into a cesspool of far-right Christian ignorance, stupidity and insanity - and this insanity seems to be playing real well to these uneducated anti-intellectual Christian-bottom-feeders (call me a "snob," its OK!).

My only question is does Rick 'Sanitarium' really believe that playing this insane mix of Christian ideology, will win him the Presidency? I sure hope he wins the GOP nomination!

John love your work! Great artical! Rick S. is a dick that will let America be ruled from Rome.He is the anti-JFK.The GOP is Doomed to these types of Retards. The sad thing is they like the Dino's they never saw their demise coming.
Thanks SBJ1964. I totally agree that this is at least the end for this era of the Grand Old Party. I mean, just how far down into this cesspool of Christian ignorance and stupidity, can they go? Barry Goldwater even warned about what would happen to the Party, if they invited (played) the ignorant evangelical Christians into the Party (one doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist, to realize the fact that everything the Christians touch, always turns to shit).

The only way that the GOP will ever produce another viable Presidential contender, is by changing the way that they are currently vetting potential candidates - currently, every GOP candidate must be anti-science, anti-women's choice on everything dealing with the private issues of a women's body, profess a belief in the asinine biblical creationism myth, and at least project themselves as being just as stupid and ignorant as the ones doing the vetting. But in the end, the GOP becoming the Party of the insane lunatics -- was a small price to pay compared with all of the trillions of dollars that they have stolen over the past 30-plus years!

Well looks like you called the election 100% correct John, and you did it 37 weeks ago!Nate Silvers has nothing on you.Still waiting for your next post hope your doing well.I miss this place.
There might be people who have different opinions and reactions on the discussion that was made but I find it very conversational. So long as they will be able to make the right decision to this, I think problems will be avoided.

The GOP has become the equilivent of the Taliban here in America. They would have us ruled by religious Mullahs of the christian churches. We have spent hundreds of billions of dollars, and thousands of lives of our brave military men & women combating such people over sea's while such people have managed to infiltrate our government, and abolish the Constitution in favor of a theocracy. The GOP must change ,and reel in the crazy backward people of a faith.
The Christian GOP has. Well said though
So, who had be chopped up like Daniel Pearl?
"So, who had be chopped up like Daniel Pearl? "

Huh? English not working for you today?
Huh, couldn't answer the question so you're trying to deflect? How typical.
The question does not make any sense
Of course it does.
You say Christians are like the taliban. Militant muslims chopped off Daniel Pearl's head, so what is the example to show they're equal?
"So, who had be chopped up like Daniel Pearl? "

Who had be?
You are the one pretending Christians in the US are equal to the taliban. It's your burden of proof to at least show an example when it's asked.
John,is it just me or do you find it odd that the GOP seems happy to be nominating a LIBERAL Mormon ex gov of the state of Mass?Everytime I think the GOP can't up the stupid they raise the bar.Truely they have gone retard. The Republicans are done as a political force;all they have left is a policy of obstructionism, and it is the American people who now suffer at the hands of these religious fanatics. We are our own worst enemy.
I hope there will be more update regarding this issue and concern. However, I am aware that problems like this will be prevented.
